Access for dialysis
Patients needing dialysis can get it in two different ways. Haemodialysis uses a circuit to take blood out of the body, filter out waste products and toxins, then return the blood to the body. Peritoneal dialysis removes waste products and toxins by moving fluid in and out of the abdomen. Your nephrologist will discuss both forms of dialysis with you and advise on which will be better for you.
Surgical procedures are needed to provide access for both forms of dialysis.
